An homage to everything beloved about theater, kick the festival off on July 12 at Brushes with Broadway, a concert headlined by Michigan native Tom Butwin and featuring special guest performers from Michigan Stage’s production of Waitress.

This year’s mainstage production is the Michigan professional premiere of Waitress. With music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles and book by Jessie Nelson, Entertainment Weekly calls Waitress the hit musical that’s “a little slice of heaven.” Join us for the grand finale of our summer season!

In pursuit of Michigan Stage’s motto “Theater for All”, representing new works will be an important part of the summer festival. Introducing: The Edge Series.
Comprised of a variety of compelling new works and works directly relevant to our community, this summer’s series includes:
Playlabs on the Mainstage: Saturday Morning Shakespeare
by Michigan Stage Playlabs students and instructors
A family-friendly production in the vein of Sesame
Street meets Shakespeare. Expect music, dancing, puppets, and more!

A thought-provoking new work. A blistering interrogation of the inequities of the public school system.

Sing Me a Song, Mr. Parody Man

An engaging and funny new musical about growing up in middle-age.
